Amherst Community Mourns the Passing of Beloved Educator Donald James Oram at 85

Donald James Oram, a beloved teacher and respected member of the Amherst, Nova Scotia community, passed away on September 19, 2024, at the age of 85. Known for his dedication to education, Mr. Oram was fondly remembered by many former students and colleagues for his ability to make challenging subjects, like physics, both accessible and enjoyable.

According to social media tributes, Mr. Oram had a profound impact on those who knew him. “Such a kind man & excellent educator. Always a gentleman,” wrote Mary Comeau, expressing her condolences to his family. Another former student, Jai Cormier, remembered him as “an amazing teacher” who managed to make “physics fun.”

Oram’s ashes will be buried alongside his wife, Carol, at their summer cottage, as there will be no public services. Tributes and condolences have poured in from all over, reflecting the high regard in which he was held. Angela Gallagher shared, “He was one of my favorite teachers,” while Gary Wilson noted, “Rest easy Mr. Doc Oram.”

Mr. Oram’s legacy as an educator and mentor will continue to inspire the Amherst community for years to come.
