Carl Moyer, Founder of Karl Chevrolet, Passes Away at 83, Leaving a Lasting Legacy in Ankeny, Iowa

Ankeny, Iowa – Carl Moyer, the well-known businessman who founded Karl Chevrolet in 1978, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, leaving behind a legacy of business success and philanthropy.

He was 83 years old.

Born and raised on the east side of Des Moines, Moyer’s entrepreneurial journey began at a young age, selling cars at local dealerships before establishing his own.

His passion for the automobile industry culminated in the creation of Karl Chevrolet, which became one of the top 3% of Chevrolet dealerships in the United States.

Moyer’s influence extended beyond his business.

He was highly regarded for his charitable contributions to the community, including a $1 million donation to Des Moines Area Community College in 2018 to improve the Karl Automotive Technology Center.

He also supported numerous causes like Variety – The Children’s Charity of Iowa, the Ankeny YMCA, and the Kiwanis Miracle Park Project.

Moyer is survived by his wife Penny, daughter Pam, and sons Brad and Bret.

Funeral arrangements are still being finalized, and the cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

His passing marks the end of an era for both the community and the automotive industry in Iowa.
