Middlebury, Vermont – Derek Bartlett, a respected math teacher and cherished hockey advocate at Middlebury Union High School, tragically passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
Bartlett’s sudden death was due to an apparent heart attack, leaving the community in mourning.
He was known for his dedication to education, his role as a coach, and his deep commitment to both his students and the school’s sports programs.
Middlebury Union High School released a heartfelt statement, saying, “Derek was a gifted educator, a committed coach, and a beloved friend and colleague in our school community.
Our hearts are with his family.”
In the wake of his passing, staff members have come together to provide support for both instructors and students as they return to school.
The school has arranged for counselors and therapy dogs from Vermont to be present for anyone needing additional emotional support.
The Bartlett family has requested privacy during this difficult time, and the community has been encouraged to bring cards to the school office, which will be delivered to the family.
Derek Bartlett’s legacy as an educator and advocate for youth will be deeply missed by the entire community.
