Donald Shiner, 56-Year-Old Joliet Bicyclist, Dies in Tragic Hit-and-Run Incident

Joliet, Illinois – Donald Shiner, a 56-year-old bicyclist from Joliet, tragically passed away in a hit-and-run accident on Sunday, October 7, 2024.

The incident occurred on Larkin Avenue, a major roadway in the city, during the early morning hours.

According to a statement from Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, officers responded to reports of a collision at approximately 2:47 a.m. in the 200 block of South Larkin Avenue.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they found Shiner unconscious near his bicycle in the southbound lanes.

A passing driver spotted the injured cyclist and immediately called for emergency services.

Shiner was struck by an unknown vehicle, which fled the scene without offering aid.

Despite the efforts of paramedics from the Joliet Fire Department, he was later pronounced dead after being transported to Ascension St. Joseph Medical Centre.

As of Sunday afternoon, law enforcement was still searching for the vehicle involved and urged anyone with information or video footage to contact the Joliet Police Department Traffic Unit.

The community mourns the loss of Donald Shiner, as investigators work to bring justice to this devastating case.
