Doug Gipe, Retired Williamsport Firefighter, Passes Away at 60 After 27 Years of Service

South Williamsport, Pennsylvania – Doug Gipe, a retired firefighter who dedicated 27 years to the Williamsport Fire Department, passed away at the age of 60. Gipe, a respected figure in the community, served as an engineer before retiring in 2019.

Doug was hired in 1991 and spent nearly three decades protecting the city of Williamsport with unwavering commitment. His colleagues and friends at the Williamsport Firefighters Local 736 expressed their sorrow on social media, saying, "It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we regret to announce that Retired Williamsport Firefighter Doug Gipe has passed away. R.I.P. Brother."

Doug’s passing has left a profound void in the lives of those who knew him, and the community has come together to remember his contributions. "Doug touched so many lives and was a great role model in South Side, volunteering with the elementary and high school wrestling program," commented Rod Banzhof.

Many others expressed their gratitude for Doug’s service and shared condolences. Wendy Hubler said, “RIP Doug. I worked with his mother, Betty, for 10 years. I see she just passed in July. Sad losses for the family.”
