Faye Haner, 74-Year-Old Pedestrian, Killed in North Tonawanda Walmart Parking Lot Incident

North Tonawanda, New York – Faye Haner, a 74-year-old resident of North Tonawanda, tragically lost her life on Friday night following a devastating accident in the parking lot of a local Walmart.

According to North Tonawanda Police Chief Keith Glass, Haner was struck by an SUV while using a crosswalk, resulting in fatal injuries.

Authorities reported that the vehicle, driven by a 56-year-old man, failed to yield the right of way, leading to the collision.

Responders found Haner trapped beneath the SUV and pronounced her dead at the scene.

The Walmart store temporarily closed as police secured the area and launched an investigation into the incident.

The driver of the SUV is cooperating fully with the ongoing inquiry.

In the wake of the tragedy, local residents voiced concerns over safety issues in the area, citing past incidents where vehicles failed to stop at pedestrian crossings.

Daniel Lassiter, a Tonawanda resident, emphasized the need for heightened awareness even in designated crosswalks, stating, “It’s crucial to look both ways.

You can’t always assume a car will stop.”

North Tonawanda Mayor Austin Tylec noted that Walmart is offering mental health support to those affected by the incident as the community mourns Haner’s death and advocates for improved safety measures.

The investigation is still ongoing.
