Samboan, Cebu – Gilbert Omaña, a 31-year-old fisherman from Sitio Inadlay, Barangay Talisay, Santander, Cebu, tragically drowned while fishing on the evening of October 1, 2024.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:45 p.m. in the waters of Barangay Bato, Samboan, while Omaña was reportedly under the influence of alcohol.
Authorities confirmed his passing shortly after the accident.
The unfortunate event has left the local community in mourning, with many expressing their condolences on social media.
Jerryboy Cujardo posted, “Rest in peace,” while Diosa Catubig Ferrater Selloria shared similar sentiments, stating, “Rest In Peace.”
Merilyn Novo Nazareno Dlv commented, “Di lagi molakaw basta makainum, kdaghan na in ana na case,” highlighting the dangers of venturing out after consuming alcohol.
Omaña, who was single and lived in a coastal community, was known to be an experienced fisherman, making his sudden death all the more tragic.
