Jay Obser Memorial Fundraiser Launched by Close Friend to Establish Community Library in Long Island

Long Island, New York – Jay Obser, a beloved Navy veteran and avid reader, tragically passed away after suffering a massive heart attack in North Carolina, just one day after his 50th birthday on August 20th. To honor his memory, his close friend Daniel Spratlan has organized a fundraiser aimed at creating the Obser Memorial Library, a neighborhood book exchange in Jay’s hometown on Long Island.

The library, inspired by Jay’s love for books, will serve as a tribute to his life and passions. Daniel Spratlan, who shared a long-standing friendship with Jay, is seeking community support for the project, which also aims to cover expenses related to Jay’s cremation and the retrieval of his cremains from North Carolina.

“Jay was a Renaissance Man and Navy veteran, an avid reader, pool shark, New Yorker, ball player, and a total conversationalist,” Daniel shared in his heartfelt appeal on the GoFundMe page. “He was one of a kind and deserves a proper remembrance.”

The fundraiser, titled “Honoring Jay: Support the Obser Memorial Library,” has set a goal of $3,000. The funds will be used not only to establish the library but also to provide Jay with a fitting tribute.

Friends and supporters have been encouraged to donate and become founding donors for this meaningful initiative. Daniel emphasized the impact Jay had on his life and the lives of many others, highlighting Jay’s generosity, humor, and unique spirit.

Several individuals have shared their thoughts and condolences on Facebook, with Daniel Spratlan urging people to “please consider supporting my friend’s memory.”

Jay Obser’s passing is a significant loss to those who knew him, and the Obser Memorial Library aims to keep his memory alive through the love of literature that he cherished so deeply.
