Joseph E. Romano, Beloved Coach and Veteran Advocate, Passes Away at 77 in Vineland, New Jersey

Vineland, New Jersey – Joseph E. Romano, a cherished coach, veteran advocate, and community leader, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2024, at the age of 77.

Born on April 30, 1947, Joseph was known for his immense passion for wrestling, his dedication to public service, and his lifelong commitment to helping others.

Throughout his career, Joseph made history as the first wrestling coach at Cumberland County College and was celebrated for guiding his son Jeremy to national wrestling titles.

His influence extended beyond the sport, earning him the title of Mercer County’s Coach of the Year at Hopewell Valley High School.

Joseph’s professional career included leadership roles in various institutions, including Vineland Veterans Home, where he served as CEO.

His relentless efforts to improve the lives of veterans led to the establishment of a state-of-the-art facility that still bears his name at the entrance.

His contributions to the community were not limited to veterans’ advocacy; Joseph also served as Exalted Ruler of the Elks, bringing his leadership skills to charitable and community-focused initiatives.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Cynthia Romano, his son Jeremy Romano, and his siblings Dolores Middleton, Robert Romano, and Gregory Romano.

Friends and family expressed their grief on social media, with Danielle Petruccelli Miles stating, “I’m so sorry for your loss,” while Ismael Ventura remarked, “He will be missed. May he Rest In Peace.”

Joseph’s legacy of service, compassion, and leadership will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
