Kenneth “Head” Schertler, Beloved Melbourne Resident, Passes Away at 71

Melbourne, KY – Kenneth “Head” Schertler, a long-time resident of Melbourne, Kentucky, passed away on September 29, 2024, at the age of 71.

He was the son of the late Ray and Irene Schertler and is remembered for his passion for working with his hands and his dedication to his craft as a stagehand and drywaller.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Steve Schertler.

He was an avid gardener, enjoyed fishing, and had a particular love for wood carvings.

Kenny is survived by his brothers, Ray and Richard Schertler, and his sisters, Carolyn Mowery, Edie Wolfe, Elaine Terhaar, Diane Carter, Mary Beth Barnes, Teresa Peters, and Jenny Zawacki.

He also leaves behind 25 nieces and nephews, 39 great-nieces and nephews, and 3 great-great-nieces and nephews, all of whom remember him fondly.

A memorial visitation is planned for October 4, 2024, at Cooper Funeral Home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a service at 1 p.m.

Cooper Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Condolences poured in on social media, with Holly Gayle Jenkins offering “Prayers,” and Ruthy Boekley Leap sharing, “My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I’m so sorry for your loss.”

Kenneth Schertler’s legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
