Lincoln County Community Honors Ryder Shortridge with Vigil and Fundraiser Following His Sudden Passing

Hamlin, West Virginia – The community of Lincoln County came together to honor the life of Ryder Shortridge, a vibrant young boy who passed away suddenly on September 16, 2024. Ryder, who was known for his energy and love for sports, left behind a grieving family, including his twin sister Remi and older twin brothers, Jaxon and Kadon.

Ryder Shortridge was an active member of the sports community, often seen playing baseball at first base wearing #23. In addition to his love for baseball, Ryder also played basketball and was a proud supporter of Guyan Valley football, where he served as the team manager.

A vigil held in Lincoln County drew a large turnout, where family, friends, and community members gathered to pay tribute to Ryder’s life and support the Shortridge family during this difficult time.

Tiffany Cartwright shared her experience from the event on Facebook, writing, “Tonight, all of Lincoln County came together in a time of need. I hugged and held children sobbing that I did not know because they needed comfort. My heart breaks for the Shortridge family.” She added, “Ryder was such an energetic fun little guy. I am so proud to call this county home.”

Heroes 4 Higher and Jonah Adkins were praised for their efforts in leading and supporting the vigil. Tiffany Cartwright thanked Jonah Adkins for “leading the vigil” and mentioned Jeremy Wilson for offering “a beautiful prayer.”

Jessica Roberts commented, “Thank you for everything you did,” while Amanda Cox added, “Lots of love and prayers for all.”

A fundraiser titled "Honoring Ryder Shortridge: A Community Tribute" was organized by Brandi Bell through GoFundMe, aiming to raise $10,000 to assist the family with funeral arrangements and additional expenses. As of today, $170 has been raised, with early donations from Jessica Roberts and Brandi and Josh Bell.

The Lincoln County Little League, where Ryder was an enthusiastic participant, is working closely with the Shortridge family to ensure that all proceeds from the fundraiser go directly to them.

The outpouring of support from the Lincoln County community has been overwhelming, as they continue to offer prayers and financial assistance to Ryder’s family during this tragic time.
