Mama Anok Mayardit Thiik, Elder Sister of President Salva Kiir, Passes Away in Juba, South Sudan

Juba, South Sudan – Mama Anok Mayardit Thiik, the elder sister of President Salva Kiir Mayardit, passed away last week in Juba, leaving the nation in deep mourning.

Her body was flown to her ancestral hometown of Akon in Warrap State, where she will be laid to rest.

President Kiir, along with First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny and other senior officials, gathered at Juba International Airport on September 28, 2024, to pay their respects.

The passing of Mama Anok has been a moment of profound sorrow for the president and the country.

May his soul rest in eternal peace,” while others like Victoria Maguen prayed, “My condolences to the family of the president Kiir, and may God almighty put her soul in his right hand.”
