Orion Onigkeit, 18-Year-Old Motorcyclist, Dies in Tragic Crash in Cheyenne, Wyoming

Cheyenne, Wyoming – Orion Onigkeit, an 18-year-old motorcyclist, tragically passed away following a devastating crash on September 15, 2024, in Cheyenne.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol released a report on October 3, confirming the details of the accident.

Onigkeit was riding east on East Lincolnway at approximately 11:22 p.m. when he lost control while negotiating a left-hand curve near Nationway.

The motorcycle collided with a building, igniting a fire that required immediate response from Cheyenne Fire Rescue.

Despite wearing a helmet, Onigkeit’s injuries were fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities indicated that speed played a significant role in the crash.

Just prior to the incident, Onigkeit and another motorcyclist, 23-year-old David Rutherford, were observed riding at high speeds.

Rutherford, who was uninjured, stayed at the scene and was later cited for negligent motorcycle operation.

This tragic event occurred just 18 days after a similar accident claimed another young motorcyclist’s life, highlighting the dangers of speeding on hazardous routes.

The community mourns the loss of Orion Onigkeit, a young life taken too soon, as thoughts and condolences pour in for his grieving family and friends.
