Southern Illinois University Student Selena Hubbard Found Unresponsive in Dorm Room – Family and Friends Mourn the Loss

Carbondale, Illinois – Selena Hubbard, a 22-year-old senior at Southern Illinois University, was tragically found unresponsive in her college dorm room on September 18, 2024. Selena, who was studying human psychology, was well-known for her kindness, intelligence, and love for her family and friends. The cause of her sudden death is still unknown as the family awaits autopsy results.

Selena had recently changed her major to human psychology after the loss of a cousin to substance use disorder, aspiring to help others in similar circumstances. She was deeply loved by her family, sharing a close bond with her mother and acting as a second mother to her younger sisters.

A GoFundMe fundraiser, organized by Melissa Ledesma, was set up to support Selena’s family in covering the unexpected expenses related to her passing. As of now, $995 has been raised toward the $2,500 goal. Melissa shared the heartbreaking news, stating, “Today, September 18, my niece Selena Hubbard was found unresponsive… Any amount helps, and we do understand that now is a tough time for everybody.”

Several friends and family members have shared their condolences and memories of Selena on Facebook. Kristin Dunkin, sharing her shock and sorrow, posted, "I’m still in such shock. Just a few days ago, we were talking and having a laugh. Me, Karlee, and our family will miss you so much."

The outpouring of support continues with multiple donations, including a $500 anonymous donation. Contributors like Jaimie Kent, Tara Phelan, Candy Marshall, and Lisa Lynn have all generously donated in honor of Selena and her family.

As the family awaits autopsy results and finalizes service arrangements, they continue to ask for prayers and support during this difficult time.
