Special Olympics Athlete Theresa Pyer Passes Away in New Florence, Pennsylvania

New Florence, Pennsylvania – Theresa Pyer, a beloved athlete known for her participation in Special Olympics, has tragically passed away. Theresa, who had Down syndrome, was recognized for her exceptional skills in roller and ice skating, and she was an artistic and figure skater in Special Olympics Palm Beach County, Florida.

Theresa had been facing health challenges over the past year and was in hospice care before her passing. She was also an active volunteer at the New Florence Fire Department, where she contributed in various roles to support the team.

George Skeeter Warren, a Special Olympic coach and volunteer for 36 years, shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook. “Tonight Theresa Pyer has passed away and went home to Heaven. Please pray for the family Sherry & Ken Stiener as they prepare for Theresa’s funeral. Theresa will be missed; she was a very special athlete when she skated in Special Olympics Palm Beach County Florida,” Warren posted.

In response to her passing, George Warren has organized a GoFundMe campaign to assist Theresa’s family with funeral expenses. The fundraiser, titled “For Theresa Pyer’s Funeral Expenses,” aims to raise $10,000, with $220 collected so far from five donations.

The fundraiser has seen contributions from several individuals, including Amber Marie, who donated $50, and Donna Shannon, who contributed $20. Lisa Kirkwood, George Warren, and Dawn Hagens also donated $50 each to support the family during this difficult time.

Theresa’s dedication and love for sports, as well as her commitment to helping others, will be remembered by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience and kindness in the community. The family and friends of Theresa are grateful for any support and prayers as they navigate this challenging time.
