Hazel Crest, IL – Tamia Costello, a 22-year-old resident of Park Forest, tragically passed away on August 4, 2024, after being struck by two vehicles in a hit-and-run incident that occurred on August 1.

The Hazel Crest Police Department is actively investigating the case and is seeking the public’s assistance to bring those responsible to justice.

On the night of the accident, Costello was crossing the intersection at 173rd and Kedzie Avenue when she was first struck by a white SUV, believed to be a 2015 or newer Nissan Rogue.

The vehicle fled the scene, heading north on Kedzie Avenue.

As bystanders tried to help, Costello was struck again by a black sedan, which also fled without stopping.

Emergency responders transported Costello to Advocate South Suburban Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries three days later.

In a bid to find the drivers involved, Costello’s family has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

The investigation is ongoing, with Hazel Crest Police Chief Mitchell Davis urging witnesses or anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward.

“We are actively working to gather more information and bring justice to Tamia’s family,” he said.
