Trooper Kevin Ramirez Vasquez, U.S. Army Veteran and Texas Highway Patrol Officer, Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle in Ector County

Ector County, Texas – Trooper Kevin Ramirez Vasquez, a dedicated member of the Texas Department of Public Safety and a U.S. Army veteran, tragically passed away on September 17, 2024, after being struck by a vehicle while on duty.

Vasquez was investigating a traffic accident when a car fatally hit him outside his patrol vehicle.

Despite being rushed to a hospital in Lubbock, his injuries were too severe, and he succumbed to them shortly after.

Trooper Vasquez had recently graduated from the Texas Department of Public Safety Academy in 2023 and had served in Odessa, Texas, where he worked on traffic enforcement and community policing initiatives.

He was known for his dedication to law enforcement and his commitment to fostering safer neighborhoods.

Social media posts have been flooded with condolences and prayers from the community.

Barbara Doherty shared, “Prayers for the family,” while Sammie McCleary wrote, “Praying,” expressing the widespread sorrow felt for Vasquez’s loss.

The DPS Troopers Foundation has since started a fundraising initiative to support his family through the Help-a-Hero program, acknowledging the sacrifice of a well-respected officer who served both his country and his community.

Trooper Vasquez leaves behind a legacy of service and bravery that will be deeply missed by his colleagues and the community.
